This HSR is a boondoggle, and nothing else. The greatest and most expensive fleecing of the taxpayer in World History. The "current" HSR estimate to build is $98.5 to 118 Billion, up from the $33 Billion sold to voters - or "lowballed" to them - in 11/08. That's a 150% increase in construction costs in 3 years, and which doesn't even include the costs to build San Diego and Sacramento lines (which the 11/08 ballot proposition said WAS INCLUDED as part of the $33 Billion).

So, extrapolating out the 150% increase ever 3 years from now until 2032, when the CAHSRA moved out the completion date to, means the train WILL EVENTUALLY COST $22 TRILLION DOLLARS TO COMPLETE (NOT INCLUDING SAN DIEGO OR SACRAMENTO!). Proof here: . If that same 150% increase occurs every three years, from now until 2032 (the revised completion date) then HSR will ultimately cost: $100, $243, $497 (billion), $1.47, $3.62, $8.92, $21.96 Trillion dollars. Yes, it’s ridiculous to expect 150% increases every three years, but it’s also ridiculous to take needed books and school supplies, art classes, music programs, etc. from K-12 children in exchange for an out of control HSR spending boondoggle. Democrats must kill the Train now.

"Del Mar Mayor and SANDAG board member Carl Hilliard... called the proposed high-speed rail, which has soared in estimated construction cost from $33 billion to at least $98 billion, 'the train to nowhere.'"

By comparing apples with oranges (a price in 2008$ with a price in YOE$), he conclusively demonstrated that he doesn't really understand the high speed rail project. Therefore, he should be ignored, and kicked off SANDAG.
