Baseball:

Torrey Pines extended its winning streak to start the season to eight games, but their most recent effort wasn’t pretty.

The Falcons were three outs away from what seemed like an easy victory, but they blew a seven run lead and had to settle for a 7-7 tie with La Costa Canyon in a North County tournament game on March 23 that went 11 innings.

The Falcons opened the tournament with a 3-2  victory over Carlsbad on March 22, and then beat Mission Hills 9-0 the next day.

Luc Rennie had four hits including a double and two RBI to lead the Falcons in the LCC game, and Morgan Oliver contributed three hits including two doubles.

Jack Mitchell homered and drove in two runs and Brock Larson and Rennie each had two hits in the Carlsbad game.

Rennie struck out six batters and allowed two runs on two hits and one walk in six innings for the win.

Rennie had two hits and also had two RBI to lead the Falcons in the Mission Hills game.

Brock Larson struck out four batters and allowed one walk in six innings of one-hit ball for the win, combining with Chris Kurylo for the shutout.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 7-0-1.

Cathedral Catholic defeated St. Augustine 3-2 in an exciting City Conference tournament game on March 24 that went eight innings.

Pitching standout Stephen Gonsalves struck out 13 batters and allowed two runs on five hits and one walk in seven innings for the win.

Hutton Moyer homered for the Dons and Michael Martin and Brady Aiken each added two hits.

The Dons got more great pitching in a 2-0 victory over Mira Mesa in a March 23 and a 4-0 win against Scripps Ranch on March 21.

Alex Schick struck out 11 batters and allowed one walk in a six-hit shutout in the Mira Mesa game.

Michael Martin pitched a three-hit shutout in the Scripps Ranch game.

The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 8-2.

Santa Fe Christian bounced back nicely after experiencing its first two losses of the season.

The Eagles had their seven-game season opening streak snapped when they lost to Torrey Pines 4-1 on March 19 and then lost to Mission Hills 3-0 three days later.

They responded with a 7-0 victory over Mission Hills on March 21 and then beat Canyon Crest Academy 6-0 two days later in North County tournament games.

Josh Estill homered twice and drove in four runs and John Gamble had three hits to lead the Eagles in the Mission Hills game.

Graham Gomez struck out nine batters and allowed two walks in six innings of three-hit ball for the win.

Gamble had two hits and two RBI and Bobby Zarubin had two hits including a double in the CCA game.

Zarubin struck out nine batters in six innings of three-hit ball for the win.

The Eagles improved their overall record for the season to 9-2.

San Diego Jewish Academy defeated Crawford 3-2 in a nonleague game on March 20 that went eight innings, but the Lions were humbled by Escondido Charter 20-1 in their Coastal League North opener two days later.

Rick Saxe had two hits including a double to lead the Lions in the Crawford game.

Brandon Morse struck out six batters and allowed five walks in seven innings of one-hit ball for the win.

The Escondido Charter game was the Lions’ first loss. Their overall record for the season fell to 2-1-1.

Softball:

Torrey Pines remains red-hot as the Falcons extended their season opening winning streak to 10 games with a decisive 13-1 nonleague victory over Escondido in a North County tournament game on March 24.

The victory followed a 4-0 victory over El Camino in the same tournament on March 21.

Lauren Hynes had two hits including a double and three RBI and Emily Wolking and Julia Yacker each added two hits to lead the Falcons in the Escondido game.

Hynes struck out five batters in a four-hitter.

Taylor Lee had two hits and two RBI to lead the Falcons in the El Camino game.

Rachel Nasland struck out seven batters and allowed four walks in four innings of no-hit ball, combining with Lee for the shutout.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 10-0.

Golf:

Torrey Pines defeated Steele Canyon 189-221 in a nonleague match on March 20.

Eric Peng shot a one-under-par 35 to lead the Falcons on a nine-hole course at Rancho Santa Fe Country Club.

Taylor Nordan added a 37 score and Ryan Burgess and Trey Buchanan each added 38 scores.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 14-1.

Canyon Crest Academy defeated Orange Glen 199-308 in a Valley League match on March 22.

Patrick Pei shot an even-par-36 on a nine-hole course at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club to lead the Ravens, and Max McKinney contributed a 38 score.

The Ravens improved to 2-0 in league an 4-1 overall for the season.

Santa Fe Christian shot a 224 as the Eagles won a Coastal League match against Horizon by forfeit on March 22.

Michael Stephenson shot a one-over-par 36 to lead the Eagles on a nine-hole course at Morgan Run Golf Course.

The Eagles improved to 1-1 in league and 2-4 overall for the season.
