Del Mar Foundation celebrates 30 years
By Jill Weitzen MacDonald
The Del Mar Foundation celebrated its 30th anniversary on Saturday night, March 31, with a party at the Powerhouse bringing together past and present board members, donors and volunteers for a fun-filled tribute to the oldest nonprofit organization in Del Mar. Founding members Joel Holliday and Lou Terrell highlighted the evening with tales of the early days of the Foundation. Guests were treated to the music of longtime UCSD professor and Del Marian Bert Turetsky, feasted on food prepared by the restaurant Pacifica Del Mar, and enjoyed the banter of guest bartenders Robby Anderson, Dan Crabtree, Cory Grant, Randy Hoyle, Bill Michalsky and Wes Huggett.
The party had an ‘80s theme as a tribute to 1982, the year the Del Mar Foundation was established. Movie posters and record albums from the era decorated the Powerhouse and ‘80s dress was encouraged. Thirty-eight current and former members of the board of directors were in attendance, as were Mayor Carl Hilliard and City Council members Mark Filanc, Don Mosier and Lee Haydu. San Diego County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price proclaimed March 31 Del Mar Foundation Day in honor of the work of the Del Mar Foundation over the past 30 years.
