PBS special to feature CCA graduate and ‘2012 Globe Honors’ winner Nicolette Burton

Nicolette Burton

Nicolette Burton, a recent graduate of Canyon Crest Academy’s Class of 2012, is this year’s winner of the “2012 Globe Honors” for leading actress in a high school musical for her role in “Kiss Me Kate,”presented at the Carmel Valley school.

Nicolette was honored with an all-expense paid trip to New York City to work with theater professionals for rehearsals, master classes, and interviews leading up to the Jimmy Awards.  The Jimmy Award is named after legendary Broadway producer and theater owner James M. Nederlander and honors high school actors and actresses from across the United States that compete for the award and cash scholarships.

This year more than 50,000 high school actors/actresses and over a 1,000 schools competed from around the United States for the chance to be one of the 60 chosen (30 males and 30 females) to compete in New York City at the Minskoff Theatre. The Jimmy Awards were held on June 25 in New York City, and Nicolette was runner up with her acting and singing from “Kiss Me Kate.”

A three-part PBS special called “Broadway or Bust” will air Sept. 9, 16 and 23 and will follow Nicolette and several other actors through the process that got them to Broadway.

Nicolette is attending Montclair State University to pursue her BFA in musical theatre this fall.
