Football:

Needing a win to clinch an Eastern League title, Cathedral Catholic left nothing to chance in a 42-11 trouncing of Mira Mesa in a league game on Oct. 26.

Tony Johnson broke a scoreless tie midway through the first quarter with a 55 yard scoring run that set the tone for the victory.

Johnson rushed for 237 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries to lead the Dons.

Theo Hardson rushed for 102 yards on four carries highlighted by a 77-yard scoring run late in the game that sealed the win.

Dons quarterback Garrett Bogart completed seven of 17 pass attempts for 113 yards.

Bogart completed a 17-yard scoring pass to Drew Gaffney in the second quarter that gave the Dons a 14-0 lead.

The Dons took a 21-3 lead into the intermission when Johnson scored on a 3-yard run.

Kyle Davis led the Dons with nine tackles and Xavier Ulutu, Taylor Esoldi and Connor Larkin each contributed eight tackles.

Michael Kaai, Brandon Michel and Toshaun Poumele each had one interception.

The Dons improved to 4-0 in league and 7-2 overall for the season.

Santa Fe Christian extended its winning streak to four games with a decisive 55-14 Coastal League victory over Escondido Charter on Oct. 26.

The Eagles clinched at least a share of the league championship with the victory. They can win the title outright on Nov. 2 when they play at Francis Parker at 7 p.m.

Eagles quarterback Hunter Vaccaro rushed completed three of four pass attempts for 86 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions.

He also rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown on three carries.

Harper rushed for 58 yards and one touchdown on two carries and Cole Needham rushed for 51 yards on three carries.

The Eagles combined for 456 yards of total offense and 372 rushing yards, with nine players carrying the ball at least once.

Darrian Barboa led the Eagles defensively with 13 tackels and Slater Howe added 10 tackles.

The Eagles scored first on Harper’s 40-yard scoring run midway through the first quarter.

They extended their lead to 14-0 later in the first quarter when Vaccaro completed a 45-yard scoring pass to Harper.

Harper completed the scoring trifecta late in the third quarter with an 83-yard kickoff return that made it 48-6.

The Eagles improved to 4-0 in league and 6-3 overall for the season.

Torrey Pines rallied from an early deficit but the Falcons couldn’t complete their comeback in a 38-24 Palomar League loss to Ramona on Oct. 26.

Chase Pickwell rushed for 56 yards on 16 carries and Cole Jaczko rushed for 56 yards on six carries to lead the Falcons. Both scored one touchdown.

Falcons quarterback Mike Ward completed five of eight pass attempts for 85 yards.

After Ramona took a quick 14-0 lead, Collin Brown got the Falcons back in the game with a 47-yard field goal early in the second quarter.

Jaczko scored on a seven yard run to close the Falcons within 14-10.

With the Falcons trailing 24-10 in the third quarter, Peter Hollen scored on a 67-yard interception return to make it 24-17, but Ramona outscored Torrey Pines 14-7 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

The loss dropped the Falcons to 1-3 in league and 4-5 overall for the season.

San Diego Jewish Academy lost its Pacific League and regular season finale to Army-Navy by forfeit.

The Lions concluded their season with an 0-7 overall record.

Volleyball:

Canyon Crest Academy had its three-match winning streak snapped when the Ravens lost to Poway 3-0 (25-13, 27-25, 25-21) in a Palomar League game on Oct. 24.

Delaney Sullivan led the Ravens with six kills and Miranda Beach contributed 14 assists.

The loss followed a 3-2 (25-17, 25-13, 19-25, 16-25, 15-11) league victory over Westview on Oct. 22.

Sullivan and Caterina Rosander each had 12 kills to lead the Ravens.

Carly Rasmussen had 24 assists and Beach added 22.

The Ravens fell to 5-2 in league and 21-8 overall for the season.

Santa Fe Christian lost to Parker 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 9-25, 25-23, 12-15) in a Coastal League South game on Oct. 26.

Hannah Mathiesen had 17 kills to lead the Eagles and Alexandra Johnson added 13 kills. Hannah Hubbard contributed 11 kills.

Eagles setter Christie Duoos had 51 assists.

The loss dropped the Eagles to 3-3 in league and 14-10 overall for the season.

Field hockey:

Canyon Crest Academy’s amazing unbeaten streak was snapped at 20 games as the Ravens lost to Poway 1-0 in a Palomar League game on Oct. 25.

The loss dropped the Ravens to 6-1 in league and 20-1 overall for the season.

Water polo:

Santa Fe Christian defeated San Dieguito Academy 19-5 in a nonleague match on Oct. 24.

Bennett Royce Scored 10 goals to lead the Eagles and Kade Shoemaker added four goals.

Eagles goalie Spencer Wong had five saves and Jack Atkinson contributed four saves.
