I was a speaker at last Thursday evenings meeting. My comments were misquoted in the article as well as some their people's comments. I guess I was paying more attention than the reporters. I said that I did not see many people turn out on the opposition who were under 40. I did not say there was nothing to do for those under 40. They actually misquoted much of what I said as well as misquoting another gentle man who said you can not put 5lb of project in a 3 pound bag. In addition, there is more community support for then project the project than it seems. Wearing my sticker on my purse in the community. Many people stopped me to voice enthusiastic support for the project. We need to represent both sides!

Both my wife and I attended Torrey Pines High School and we are now raising our family in Carmel Valley. I have also been involved in the development of neighborhood shopping centers, regional malls and mixed use development projects.

Residents need to understand that the proposed project size and density is far too great for the infastructure in place. Carmel Valley can not handle and absorb the impact that such a project would have on the community. Especially the long term affects. Traffic studies as well as the project planning never take into account human nature, which is unpredictable. Nor will you ever be able to undo that which is done.

The proposed project is a mixed use, regional project which would draw from all parts of North County; Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Cardiff as well as other parts south. This is not a project which is being built to serve just Carmel Valley, the proposed project and uses would present the same impacts as UTC. I don't no about you, but I certainly do not want to UTC in my backyard.

We chose to live and raise our family in Carmel Valley for it's quite, non-commercialized lifestyle it provides. If anything we need more open space, trails and fields for our kids and families to enjoy, not 2,000,000 or 1,400,000 square feet of selfishness and other uses that will increase our traffic and crime rates.

The Trader Joe's argument is a red herring thrown around by the Kilroy people. Personally, I don't care that much about trader joe's. If I did, I could drive 10 minutes to UTC and shop at the TJ there. I would rather do that then deal with a traffic jam every day in Carmel Valley. Make no mistake, this project would create a traffic nightmare on El Camino Real and Del Mar Heights.

The "job creation" pitch is also laughable. Kilroy has several near-vacant office buildings up and down El Camino Real and Del Mar Heights. Building another vacant office building won't "create jobs." At best, One Paseo will bring in hundreds of minimum-wage retail workers that will commute in and out of CV daily, making traffic even worse.

It's going to be impossible under current zoning - we get current conditions + inevitable growth and absolutely no mitigations or intersection improvements. Who's gonna fix that? The mayor? Puhleez.

Geez, a Trader Joe's is not worth this! Don't let them build out past the zoning! Why have zoning limitations if you aren't going to follow them? Look what is happening to the people in PHR, they lost their movie theater and gained housing units. I don't trust Kilroy at all. Anyone who is in favor of this project has never had to drive from Del Mar to CCA, it will be impossible with the extra cars and lights.
