Week in Sports for Carmel Valley, Del Mar and Solana Beach

Baseball:

Whatever happened to Cathedral Catholic in North Carolina will apparently stay there.

A week after losing three straight games at the National High School tournament in Cary, N.C., the Dons bounced back to capture the City Conference Tournament title with three straight wins.

The Dons defeated Mira Mesa in the finals on April 6.

Their title game victory followed a 10-3 win against Point Loma in the tournament opener on April 2, and a 4-0 victory over La Jolla two days later.

Brady Aiken combined with reliever Drew Finley on a one-hit shutout to lead the Dons in the title game.

Aiken struck out six batters and allowed four walks in five innings of one-hit ball for the win.

Drew Finley led the Dons in the Point Loma game with a triple and three RBI.

Michael Martin pitched six shutout innings of three-hit ball to lead the Dons in the La Jolla game.

Christian Camarena led Dons offensively, going 2 for 3 with a double and one RBI.

The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 11-4.

Canyon Crest Academy finished the North County Tournament on a winning note with a 7-4 victory over Torrey Pines on April 5.

The victory followed a 5-3 loss to Fallbrook on April 1.

Riley Adams had three hits and two RBI to lead the Ravens in the Torrey Pines game.

Jack Kaloogian struck out 11 batters and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks in six innings for the win.

Josh Remick led the Falcons with two hits and three RBI and Cole Klemke had two hits and two runs scored.

Nathan Landers had three hits and one RBI in defeat for the Ravens in the Fallbrook game and Kaloogian had two hits including a solo home run.

The Ravens improved their overall record for the season to 5-9.

The Falcons went 0-3 at the North County Tournament.

They opened with a 4-3 loss to Ramona on April 2 and then lost to La Costa Canyon 3-2 two days later.

Christian Gange had two hits to lead the Falcons in the Ramona game and

Remick and Jackson Gentes each had two hits in defeat for the Falcons in the LCC game.

The Falcons extended their losing streak to six games as they fell to 5-10 overall for the season.

Santa Fe Christian split two games at the North County Tournament.

The Eagles opened with a 17-4 victory over Mission Vista on April 2 but lost to Ramona 6-2 two days later.

Chase Bushor had four hits and two RBI to lead the Eagles in the Mission Vista game.

Cole Weaver and Troy Zarubin each contributed two hits and three RBI.

Eliott had two hits in defeat for the Eagles in the Ramona game.

The Eagles fell to 8-8 overall for the season.

Softball:

Torrey Pines lost to Bonita Vista 10-1 in the Falcon Fiesta tournament championship game on April 6.

The loss followed a 5-0 win against Steele Canyon in the semifinals earlier in the day.

Volleyball:

Torrey Pines defeated Mt. Carmel 3-0 (28-26, 25-16, 25-18) in a Palomar League game on April 5.

The victory followed a 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 25-22) league win against Rancho Bernardo two days earlier.

Connor Milmoe and Jake Reeves each had seven kills to lead the Falcons in the Mt. Carmel game.

Reeves led the Falcons in the Rancho Bernardo game with 22 kills.

The Falcons improved to 2-1 in league and 10-9 overall for the season.

Boys golf:

Torrey Pines defeated Canyon Crest Academy 184-189 in a Palomar League match on April 3.

Danny Ochoa shot a 3-under-par 33 to lead the Falcons on a nine-hole course at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club.

Girls lacrosse:

Canyon Crest Academy defeated Del Norte 15-5 in a nonleague game on April 4.

Katie Carlson had five goals to lead the Ravens and Nicole Hickman contributed three goals and one assist.

Alexa Carter added two goals and one assist.

Ravens goalie Caitlin Vogt had six saves.

The Ravens improved their overall record for the season to 6-3.

Boys lacrosse:

Torrey Pines defeated Rancho Bernardo in a Palomar League game on April 5.

Lucas Gradinger scored four goals to lead the Falcons.

The Falcons improved to 3-0 in league and 5-1 overall for the season.

Cathedral Catholic defeated Monte Vista (Contra Costa County) 9-4 in a nonleague game on April 5.

Michael Kay scored four goals to lead the Dons.
