The Rockademy, a school where children and adults can discover their inner rock star, celebrates its grand opening this week.

Performances by student bands including Speechless, HTC and Too Loud are scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, at the school’s newly-opened studios at 524 Stevens Ave., 1Suite 5, in Solana Beach. Nearby restaurants will cater the event.

The Rockademy provides individual lessons and coaching for rehearsals, performances and recording. Rockademy’s instructors match students with similar abilities and musical interests to form bands.

Under the supervision of professional musicians, the youth bands build their song lists and rehearse and perform together. The Rockademy frequently showcases its bands at public events such as Fiesta del Sol, the San Diego County Fair and at opening day ceremonies for the Del Mar and Solana Beach little leagues. A future show is scheduled at Powerhouse Park in Del Mar.

“We give them a reason to practice,” said James Couzens, founder of The Rockademy. As bands prepare for gigs, “Everyone wants to do a good job.”
