Encinitas Sheriff’s Department to hold free bike safety event in Solana Beach

The Encinitas Sheriff’s Station is hosting a Bike Road-E-O. It’s free for families who live in Solana Beach, Eden Gardens and Encinitas.

The Bike Road-E-O is on Thursday, Aug. 22, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at La Colonia Park (715 Valley Avenue, Solana Beach). The event features a bicycle and helmet safety inspection. A quick lesson on the rules of the road is followed by a ride on a miniature “chalk street” course where children are shown where and how to apply the rules. Sheriff’s Deputies from the Encinitas Station will escort the kids through the course to point out hazards and give safety tips.

Don’t forget to bring your bicycle and helmet. For more information or to register, call Crime Prevention Specialist Henry Tirado at (760) 966-3588.

How about teling bikers they don’t own the road, they have obay the rules of the road, like stopping for people, red lights etc. maybe the sheriff could start giving them tickets for running red lights etc. instead of just watch them break the law, the same rules that govern autos apply to bike riders
