The Carmel Valley Recreation Council, along with Pardee Homes and Kilroy Realty Corporation, recently announced the Summer Serenades 2014 concert series lineup. This will be the council’s 24th year to host the summer concert series. Bring the whole family for a night of live music and fun.  Don’t forget your picnic baskets and dancing shoes!

“This year we have an exciting schedule with three new bands that have been added to our lineup,” says Sharon Fornaciari, the event organizer for more than nine years.

“Our concert series has something for everyone, from oldies rock and roll to the best of the -’80s and ’90s, the smooth sound of reggae music, and this year we’ve added some country western and boogie-woogie.”

The Recreation Council has five excellent concerts lined up, which will run from 5-7 p.m. Sundays in the amphitheater at the Carmel Valley Rec Center, at 3777 Townsgate Drive.

The series begins July 13 with the amazing sounds of Atomic Groove. No Summer Serenades would be complete without Atomic Groove, who will make their fifth appearance in the concert series. If you’re looking for energetic dance music for the whole family, this is the concert for you.  Atomic Groove is high-energy from the first beat to the last.  Come join us for our season opener and groove to the music of Atomic Groove!

Next in the lineup is the Clay Colton Band — one of three new bands to perform this summer. The CCB plays contemporary country-rock with some Irish sounds mixed in. They are a San Diego favorite and will play July 20.

New to the lineup this season is NRG. Known for their showmanship and unique entertainment, they will play July 27. NRG has been performing worldwide for more than a decade, covering an enormous range of musical styles with a high level of energy.

Sue Palmer has been performing boogie-woogie around the world for more than 20 years.  Appearing with some of the biggest legends in that genre, she has earned the title “Queen of Boogie-Woogie” with her flashy stylings and wailing keyboard.  Sue and her Motel Swing Orchestra will perform Aug. 3.

For the final concert, Upstream returns with their smooth reggae sounds. The group  formed in the republic of Trinidad and Tobago and then relocated to southern California in the early 1990s. Their style of reggae is energetic and eclectic. Performing with them will be the Caribbean Gems, a Calypso dance group.

The Summer Serenades concerts are free, thanks to the generous support of the Carmel Valley Recreation Council along with Pardee Homes and Kilroy Realty Corporation.

“We have had a longstanding relationship with Pardee Homes going back more than 20 years,” said Pat Collins, chair of the council. “Pardee continues to support this wonderful community event year after year. Kilroy Realty has also been supportive of the community through their support of these concerts over the last three years and we hope they will continue to be involved.

“Additionally, these concerts could not be held without the continued support of the City of San Diego and its Parks and Recreation Department.”
