On Feb. 3, the Santa Fe Christian Eagles (19-8, 6-2) boys basketball team lost to the Army-Navy Academy 60-52. All SFC had to do on Senior Night, Feb. 20, at the Solana Beach school, was beat ANA in their rematch to be co-champions of the Costal League North.
But, in a back-and-forth contest that was still up in the air going into the last quarter, ANA Warriors’ Rafael Rodriguez and Derrick Buchanan put on a two-man show scoring a combined 53 points beating the Eagles 61-49.

Christian Life beats SD Jewish Academy in two hoops games
With the regular basketball season winding down and the playoffs around the corner, the San Diego Jewish Academy girls and boys basketball teams traveled north Feb. 10 to take on the Christian Life Academy in Escondido.

The Torrey Pines Falcons boys junior varsity basketball team has been on a winning streak. Last season, the team went 23-0. This season, the team is 27-0, and 7-0 in the Avocado League.

On Jan. 27, the San Diego Jewish Academy Lions girls and boys basketball teams traveled north to play the Escondido Adventist Academy Hawks in a pair of Citrus West League games. The SDJA Lady Lions (11-2, 3-1) defeated the EAA Lady Hawks (7-11, 1-3) by a score of 44-38, while the EAA Boys (9-9,4-0) defeated the SDJA Boys (10-4, 1-3) by a score of 65-43.

After a long career with the NFL and USFL, and most recently, coaching football for eight seasons at Santa Fe Christian Academy, Brian Sipe will return to his alma mater, San Diego State University, as the Aztec’s quarterback coach.
In his time coaching, the Santa Fe Eagles achieved a 75-21-1 record and won four CIF titles.

For years, the Torrey Pines Falcons Wrestling team (2-1, 1-0) has battled in the tough Palomar League with perennial powerhouses. But, this year they are in the Avocado League and opened up with an exciting 45-32 win Jan. 8 over the Escondido Cougars (1-3, 0-1).
Before the match, Falcons Head Coach Jesse Mindlin said, “This should be a good match. Escondido is a good team.” And the match was as predicted.

The San Diego Jewish Academy split doubleheader non-league basketball games at host Escondido Charter High School Dec. 18.
The SDJA Lady Lions (4-1) won an exciting OT contest, beating the Escondido Charter Lady White Tigers by the score of 53-46. And the SDJA Lions Boys (5-3) lost a tough one to the E.C. White Tigers (2-4) by the score of 77-65.

San Diego Section Varsity High School Wrestling took place Dec. 11, at host Torrey Pines’ gym. The Falcons (1-1) rallied in their last two matches after, being down 27-33 to the San Marcos Knights (1-1), to tie and win a close and exciting white-knuckle, non-league match 39-33.

Freshman helps make SDJA sports history
The San Diego Jewish Academy in Carmel Valley has never gone to the finals in any CIF sports playoffs – until this year.
SDJA lady Lions girls volleyball team (7-3, 7-1), with fantastic freshman Gabriela “Gabbi” Rothman, won the Citrus West League and made it all the way to the CIF Div. 5 finals before losing to the Tri-City Christian Lady Eagles.
