One of the oft quoted rhymes of Dr. Seuss, whose books will come to life in the Theatre School@North Coast Rep’s production of SEUSSICAL JR., sums up director Siobhan Sullivan Crews views on the literacy outreach project she and the cast have embarked on.

Local residents (see photo at right), including Carmel Valley resident Megan Spector (as “Mary Lennox”), will perform in The California Youth Conservatory presentation of “The Secret Garden, A Musical” at the Joan B. Kroc Theatre in San Diego from March 1-15.
Last spring, actor Jason Maddy toured San Diego County middle and high schools as an actor in The Old Globe’s production of William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.” Now, the local actor and instructor is launching his own version of the comedy Feb. 28 at Canyon Crest Academy in Carmel Valley.
“It was fresh in my mind, and I thought it would be a good challenge for the kids that I get to work with,” Maddy said.
Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) Regional Competition was held in San Diego on Jan. 17-18. Ballet Arte Academy of Classical Ballet in Solana Beach recently announced that all of its participating students placed in each of their various categories. Ballet Arte students placed as follows:
James Leaming is the narrator of “Who Am I This Time? (and other conundrums of love),” the current production running at North Coast Repertory Theatre in Solana Beach until Feb. 2. The production is adapted from three stories by Kurt Vonnegut.
Leaming, 57, is a founder and actor with American Blues Theater in Chicago (www.americanbluestheater.com), an ensemble company that has been producing American plays since 1985. They feature the classics of Eugene O’Neill, Tennessee Williams and William Inge, as well as new plays they foster and guide from conception to the stage.
Two of the performers in “Pinkalicious” are Carmel Valley residents: Chase Anichini, 10, has been cast as Pinkalicious and goes to Torrey Hills Elementary School.
