Del Mar library is the place to be this summer

The Del Mar Branch Library has a host of activities to keeps kids excited and engaged this summer.

“It’s not just story times,” explained Jennifer Runge, youth services librarian for the Del Mar and Cardiff-by-the-Sea branches. “The other programs are very popular.”

It’s the involvement of the local parents that allows the library’s summer schedule to thrive.

Safety equipment purchase for child care facilities OK’d

At its July 21 meeting, the Del Mar Union School District board approved purchasing automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for its after-school child care facilities. The purchase comes at the request of Julie Geisbauer, the new director of after-school services and child care, after a review of the existing safety program.

Amendment to Prop. M to be on November ballot

A proposed amendment to Proposition M will be on the November ballot, the San Diego City Council decided in a unanimous vote on July 26.

The amendment would remove the development restriction placed by 1998′s Prop. M that limits Pacific Highlands Ranch to 1,900 units until the connector between Interstate 5 and Highway 56 is built.

Cain joins Lions Club

Solana Beach businessman David Cain was recently presented his Charter Pin by Del Sol Lions Club President Dave Roberts. Cain became the 67th and final charter member.

The club was chartered on Feb. 15 by Lions Clubs International. Charter members were eligible to join for 90 days.

Lions Club to partner with Blind Stokers Club

Blind Stokers Club members Dave Walker and Peter Dawson recently met with Del Sol Lions Club President Dave Roberts, past International Director Bill Crawford and past District Gov. Julie Crawford to announce that the Lions would be partnering with the Blind Stokers Club on its upcoming Aug. 1 Cycling for Sight bike ride from La Jolla to Irvine and back.

McDonald to lead Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito

Larry McDonald has been selected as board chairman for the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito for 2010-11. McDonald, the former treasurer/finance chairman of the organization, has been a board member for seven years. He is a vice president and senior lender at Wells Fargo Private Bank.

Concerts at the Cove series continues

Singer and songwriter Alyssa Jacey performed last Thursday at Fletcher Cove Park as part of the summer Concerts at the Cove series.

The concerts take place every Thursday, starting at 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own beach chairs, blankets, picnics and friends. Josh Damigo performed Thursday night.

Credit union brimming with color

The team members at Navy Federal Credit Union in Del Mar weren’t able to attend Opening Day at the track, so they decided to celebrate the occasion by having a ‘hat contest’ between the team members. It was a fun day, with the staff all wearing hats and the members voting for their favorite. The Del Mar branch of Navy Federal is in the Del Mar Heights Village shopping center.

Jersey Mike’s opens in Solana Beach

Jersey Mike’s Subs opened its first store in Solana Beach this week. Jersey Mike’s owners Kevin Kenny, Patrick Kenny and David Kenny opened the location on Wednesday with a fundraising event to support the Boys & Girls Club of San Dieguito.

From Wednesday through this Sunday, Aug. 1, the store is giving away free regular-size sub sandwiches with a minimum of $1 contribution to the club. A coupon was required for the promotion and more than 10,000 coupons were distributed throughout the community.

Inbody on top 100 list

Morgan Stanley Smith Barney announced in April that Del Mar resident Robert Inbody, a senior vice president, financial advisor in the firm’s La Jolla office, was named to Barron’s annual list of America’s top 100 financial advisers.
