I recently covered Gene Romero’s West Coast Flat Track Series indoor motorcycle racing at the South Point Arena in Las Vegas. I covered this event last year too, and told you about it in AutoMatters #265.
It is truly amazing what a liberal application of sticky, gooey, Pepsi cola will do to slippery concrete. Suffice to say, it creates an ideal (and tasty?) surface for exciting indoor motorcycle racing.
AutoMatters’ coverage of the 2014 International CES continues with the Las Vegas debut of the FIA’s new Formula-e Championship racing series, as well as more cool new products: olloclip camera lenses for the iPhone.
I just returned from a full week in Las Vegas at the 2014 International CES – otherwise known as the Consumer Electronics Show. I covered far too much to report in one column so more will follow in the weeks ahead.
CES is a huge, annual exhibition for the consumer electronics industry. Products include audio, video, photo gear, automotive electronics, cell phones, computers, 3-D printers, tablets and all their peripherals and accessories. Too large to be housed in just the Las Vegas Convention Center, this year the exhibit halls were also located in The Venetian, Mandalay Bay, the Las Vegas Hotel & Casino (LVH) and the Renaissance Las Vegas. Additionally, special events were held in other Las Vegas area hotels and venues.
How would you like to have Southern California freeways and streets almost all to yourself, for miles and miles on a postcard-perfect, gorgeous San Diego day? You could have had that on the first morning of this year’s San Diego International Auto Show. That’s because – for the first time that I can ever remember, the show began in the morning of New Year’s Day. What a great way to get in the right mood for an auto show.
Dash cams have been in widespread use for many years. Small, economical and relatively easy to use, they are typically installed on or above the dashboards of vehicles. They’ve been used to record everything from accidents to a meteor speeding to a fiery collision in Russia. Their use in police cars to document events has also been a source of dramatic police chase videos for reality TV.
The annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas overflows its exhibit halls with amazing, extremely customized cars and trucks.
Part 2: Exterior Styling, Suspension, Drivetrain, Controls & Electronics
As a current and former owner of Ford’s iconic Mustang, I join the other Mustang faithful in having high hopes and expectations for each new model. This next one will commemorate 50 years of continuous Mustang production, so it was that with great anticipation and amid suprisingly little fanfare and hooplah that on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, Ford officially revealed the 2015 Mustang in six cities on four continents. This signified Ford’s intention to sell this new Mustang not just in North America, as has been the case with the previous Mustangs, but around the world. Made in USA, it will be an image car for the entire Ford brand.
When we think of exotic supercars, including Lamborghinis, many of us may associate them with the lifestyles of celebrities and the very rich. We may think that these cars are rarely driven hard (as they were meant to be driven) and, instead, are mostly seen parked in high visibility, preferred valet parking spaces directly in front of exclusive hotels and expensive restaurants.
Situated in the large halls of the Los Angeles Convention Center and running through Dec. 1, the 2013 LA Auto Show includes tastefully presented new car ‘showrooms,’ special exhibits, a large hall dedicated to the aftermarket and vendors, and more. It features world and North American introductions of new automobiles, with an emphasis on ‘green’ vehicles. AutoMatters previewed the show during Press Days.
