AutoMatters: 2015 Mustang Revealed!

2011 Mustang in Venice Beach

As a current and former owner of Ford’s iconic Mustang, I join the other Mustang faithful in having high hopes and expectations for each new model. This next one will commemorate 50 years of continuous Mustang production, so it was that with great anticipation and amid suprisingly little fanfare and hooplah that on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, Ford officially revealed the 2015 Mustang in six cities on four continents. This signified Ford’s intention to sell this new Mustang not just in North America, as has been the case with the previous Mustangs, but around the world. Made in USA, it will be an image car for the entire Ford brand.

AutoMatters: Racing Lamborghinis in the Super Trofeo Series

Lamborghini Aventador at Auto Club Speedway

When we think of exotic supercars, including Lamborghinis, many of us may associate them with the lifestyles of celebrities and the very rich. We may think that these cars are rarely driven hard (as they were meant to be driven) and, instead, are mostly seen parked in high visibility, preferred valet parking spaces directly in front of exclusive hotels and expensive restaurants.

AutoMatters: 2013 LA Auto Show

Ford exhibit

Situated in the large halls of the Los Angeles Convention Center and running through Dec. 1, the 2013 LA Auto Show includes tastefully presented new car ‘showrooms,’ special exhibits, a large hall dedicated to the aftermarket and vendors, and more. It features world and North American introductions of new automobiles, with an emphasis on ‘green’ vehicles. AutoMatters previewed the show during Press Days.

AutoMatters: Stadium SUPER Trucks at Caesars Palace

Stadium SUPER Trucks

Imagine that you, your friends and family are racing each other with radio-controlled, scale model, off-road trucks, sending them bounding over jumps and frequently crashing into each other. Sometimes they roll over but soon continue on their way after being rolled back onto their tires, leaving pieces of their bodywork all over the track in their wake. Got the picture? Good.

AutoMatters: ENDER’S GAME – Sci-Fi, Space, Morality and a 2088 Audi

Ender’s Game costume, set and prop design at Comic-Con 2013.

Based on the book by Orson Scott Card and set about 75 years in the future, Ender’s Game recalls the legendary and heroic accomplishments of International Fleet Commander Mazer Rackham (played by Ben Kingsley), who had led a fiercely fought battle for humanity’s survival. Their last-ditch effort succeeded, when all hope seemed lost, to turn back hordes of alien invaders and stop the invasion.

AutoMatters: Dramatic IndyCar Season Finale at Auto Club Speedway

– Sebastien Bourdais racing with Alex Tagliani and Marco Andretti

It was an exciting race, a fitting conclusion to a dramatic, unbelievably competitive 2013 IZOD IndyCar Series season that thrilled fans and the international field of competitors alike with many IndyCar race winners – including several for their first time. The MAVTV 500 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana had it all from start to finish: action on the track, drama in the pits and suspense until the very end as to who would win the season championship. Would it be Scott Dixon, who emerged as the surprise Series leader late in the season, or would it be Helio Castroneves, who stumbled late in the season with a disastrous two-race weekend in Houston, giving up his commanding lead in the points?

AutoMatters: Orange County International Auto Show

BMW i3 North American debut

Orange County in California represents a major and important market for new automobiles. There was a time, not so long ago, when the Orange County International Auto Show came close to rivalling the LA Auto Show with exciting new vehicle introductions, elaborate displays and everything else that you’d expect from a major automobile show. It was much more than what some call a dealer show, with mostly a selection of new vehicles that you could already see in your local car dealers’ showrooms, along with a smattering of concept cars that had, for the most part, already made the rounds at first tier auto shows months before. Then our economy went sour, and along with it went the auto industry.
