Solana Beach Library to hold Summer Kick-off Party

The event will feature live jazz and contemporary music, a demonstration by the Ballistic Racers Flyball Team, Love On a Leash therapy dogs, Free Spirit the Clown, balloon animals, crafts, prizes and refreshments. Also, meet artist Mona Mills and view her whimsical portraits.

Blood drive to be held at Del Mar City Hall

The San Diego Blood Bank will accept blood donations at a drive hosted by Del Mar City Hall, 1050 Camino Del Mar, Del Mar, on Thursday, June 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

‘Organic pest control’ is topic of next Seaweeders Garden Club meeting

The group meets at the Solana Beach Boys and Girls Club cottage, 533 Lomas Santa Fe Drive. The program speaker will be Mia McCarville, owner of Cedros Gardens and leading authority on organic pest control. Attendees are welcome to bring photos or samples from pest damage to be identified and will then be given useful treatment advice.

Del Mar Historical Society to hold Alvarado House fundraiser

With a goal to bring Del Mar’s first house back home, the Del Mar Historical Society is hosting a fundraiser June 16 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Carmel Creek Elementary School Reunion for the Class of 2014 to be held in Carmel Valley

On Wednesday, June 4, from 3:15 – 4:15 p.m., high school seniors that once attended Carmel Creek Elementary School are invited to a casual reunion at the school. The highlight of this event will be when students and teachers get in a big circle. The students will share a favorite memory and what their future plans are and the teachers along with Principal Terri Davis share stories and words of encouragement to the students as they begin this next stage in life.

Expert to speak on ‘The Wolf – Life and Legend’ at Solana Beach Library Friends Night Out event

What is a wolf? Learn about their fascinating legends and behavior along with the challenges they face with ranchers and farmers. Karin Vardaman, director of development at the California Wolf Center, will present a dynamic discussion of “Wolf Ecology and Behavior” at the Solana Beach Library Friends Night Out event. The presentation is at 6:30 p.m. May 13 at the Solana Beach Library in Warren Hall.

Del Mar Farmers Market to hold special event to help prepare for Mother’s Day

Del Mar Farmers Market invites the community to come celebrate and prepare for Mother’s Day on Saturday, May 10, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Listen to live music. Children are invited to make Mother’s Day flower arrangements from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Handwriting workshop to be held at Solana Beach Library

The Solana Beach Library is offering middle-schoolers a cursive-writing workshop on Monday, May 5, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Carlsbad calligrapher Victoria Kibildis will show the “secrets” of writing in cursive and demonstrate the style in both upper and lower-case letters. Paper and pencils will be provided.

Del Mar Unit of Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary to host 53rd ‘Heard it Through the Grapevine’ fundraiser

The ladies of the Del Mar Unit of Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary are raising their glasses in celebration of the 53rd Anniversary of “Heard it Through the Grapevine” to be held on Friday, May 9, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Santaluz Club. Recognized as one of North County’s premier fundraising events, proceeds this year will benefit the Chadwick Center for Children and Families at Rady Children’s Hospital – San Diego.
