Team heads for National Invitational in Midwest

Del Mar Powerhouse 8U boys wrapped up their 2013 Winter/Spring League with a stellar tournament over Easter weekend. The boys went 1-1 in pool play to take the 3 seed and won two straight elimination games to make it to the Championship game.

Powerhouse 12U boys battled through five games over the Easter weekend in Chino Hills to bring home the Runner-up trophy from the USSSA Easter Classic tournament. The Powerhouse defense kept the competition off the bases in pool play and elimination, but it was the power of their bats that got them to the Championship game.

Solana Beach Soccer Club held its annual meeting on Feb. 12, honoring four young recipients of the Peter Schmid Award, an award that recognizes standout players for their sportsmanship and attitude. This year’s recipients included Alexandra “Alex” Worms, Hannah Wagner, Francesca “Franny” Oldham and Aafje Day.
The agreement, signed on Friday, Dec. 28, allows Soccerloco exclusive Title Sponsorship rights for the highly rated Surf Cup youth soccer tournaments and the nationally competitive teams of Surf Soccer Club based in San Diego.

The San Diego Mustangs Under 16 and Under 19 rugby teams each began their Southern California Championship quest, with quarter-final playoff matches held on Saturday at Little-Q field, home pitch for the OMBAC Rugby Club.

The Canyon Crest Academy Boys Volleyball Team finished tied for 3rd in the Gold Division at the Valhalla Tournament losing to eventual champions Grossmont High School. This result comes on top of winning the consolation division in the Scripps Ranch Tournament.

The SDFA GU14 soccer team won the Nomads’ College Showcase Soccer Tournament held March 31 – April 2. The championship game played at UCSD ended with SDFA prevailing over Nado 1-0 in double overtime. SDFA was undefeated in the five matches it played in the tournament and allowed no goals.
Registration is now open for those wishing to sign up for fall recreational soccer through the Rancho Santa Fe Attack Recreational program at www.rsfsoccer.com. The program is designed for children ages 4 to 18 and emphasizes fun while learning the game of soccer and the meaning of sportsmanship.
The Harlem Ambassadors will take on the Rotary Ravens at a charity basketball game at Canyon Crest Academy. Game Day is May 5 at 7 p.m. on the Canyon Crest Academy campus in Carmel Valley, sponsored by the Del Mar-Solana Beach Sunrise Rotary Club.
