Surf Girls Academy champs in Pegasus Cup

The Surf Girls Academy U12, coached by Steveo Leacock, were recent champions in the Pegasus Cup. The girls outscored their opposition 11 to 1 over the weekend. Attack Muchnick BU15 wins Kickin’ it Challenge

The BU15 Attack team, managed by Coach Marc Muchnick, managed to go unbeaten on their way to winning the Championship at the recent Kickin it Challenge in Escondido. The Kickin’ it Challenge was established to raise much-needed funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. This is the Muchnick BU15 Attack team’s second year participating and second year in the finals. This was also the final prep tournament before the team heads to the Keele Cup Tournament outside of Manchester, England, where teams from 25 countries will compete at Keele University.

Three North Shore softball teams qualify for state championship

North Shore Softball All-Star teams achieved unprecedented success this past weekend at the ASA District Tournament. Players in three separate age categories finished among the top teams in the North San Diego County District, each earning a spot at the State Tournament in Lancaster on July 4-6.

This is the first time in the league’s 26-year history that all of North Shore’s All-Star teams have qualified for States in the same year.

Surf Academy GU10 takes Pegasus

Surf Academy (Madrigal) GU10 placed first in their flight at the June 21-22 Pegasus Cup.  The team, under the direction of Coach Danny Madrigal, won each of their pool play games, advancing to the final match, where they emerged as champions with a 6-1 victory. Sand Diego Rowing Club women take home bronze

Varsity women with the San Diego Rowing Club have brought home a bronze medal from the U.S. Rowing’s Youth National Championships in Sacramento. The event was held over three days earlier in June at Lake Natoma where top high-school-age rowers from across the nation raced on a 2,000-meter (1.25 mile) course to cap off the 2013-2014 season.

The club’s time of 7:26.852 made them the country’s third-fastest Women’s Youth boat in the “4x” (4 rowers, 8 oars) division. Junior rowers Marissa Gibson, Jillian Renly, Sarah Hoskin and Mariko Kelly earned their medals after competing against 19 teams in multiple heats. The club’s junior women advanced to U.S. Nationals after racing to a gold medal in the same event at the Southwest Junior District Championships in May, beating a field of 30 women’s teams in multiple heats.

Del Mar Carmel Valley Sharks Boys U13 White Team wins Arsenal FC Summer Classic Soccer Title

The Del Mar Carmel Valley Sharks Boys U13 White team took the trophy at the this past weekend at the  Arsenal FC Summer Classic soccer tournament in the top bracket. The Sharks were directed by Coach Roy Ashcroft. The boys had an exciting tournament and were undefeated over the entire weekend. It was a challenging tournament with a final showdown between the top two teams that had met in the first round for a 0 - 0 draw. The Legends played a physical game and took the lead in the final 10 minutes of the game but the Sharks hung in and equalized in the final minute. The game went to golden goal, first goal wins in overtime, and the Sharks scored on a set piece to take the trophy. It was a group effort with six different boys scoring over the course of the weekend.

Del Mar National Little League Mudcats win league’s AAA Division Championship

After finishing second in the regular season standings, the Mudcats went undefeated in the playoffs to win the AAA Division Championship.

The BU12 Manchester team had an amazing spring indoor soccer season. The team finished the season in third place, which earned them a berth in the playoffs.

The team’s first playoff game was against a very strong Scripps team, which had just beaten the BU12 Manchester team the week before!

Surf Academy Condliffe GU11 brings home trophy

SD Surf Academy Condliffe GU11 went 3-0-1 for Fathers’ Day weekend, winning a hard-fought final game to bring home the Rebels Cup Trophy in Chula Vista! Girls on the team represent communities including Carmel Valley, San Marcos, Carlsbad, Olivenhain, Encinitas, Leucadia, Point Loma, Mission Hills, Scripps Ranch and Mission Viejo.

Author cheers rowers on way to Nationals

The San Diego Rowing Club met Daniel James Brown, author of “The Boys in the Boat,” after he spoke at the Point Loma Library on June 4. The rowers recently competed at the National Championships in Sacramento.

Daniel James Brown, author of the national bestseller, “The Boys in the Boat,” aims for “No. 1” with San Diego rowers who will compete at U.S. Rowing’s Youth National Championships in Sacramento from June 13 to June 15.

Brown met the junior rowers, who represent the San Diego Rowing Club (Jillian Renly, Marissa Gibson, Mariko Kelly, and Sarah Hoskin) after speaking at the Point Loma Library on June 4.
