Super 7 wins in 3rd/4th grade open league

On June 9, “Super 7” beat the Aztecs 35-24 to win the Master Sports 2014 Spring Basketball Open League championship for third/fourth grade.

Under the leadership of co-coaches and sisters Sajani and Shilpa Patel, Super 7 learned early on that the key to victory was working as a team and focusing on the fundamentals.

Del Mar Carmel Valley Sharks GU 17 Elite girls team ready to defend national championship

The 2013 US Youth Soccer National Champion Del Mar/Carmel Valley Sharks GU 17 Elite girls team has been playing together for five years — traveling all over the country and world from Hawaii to Sweden. In July, the close-knit, “fiercely competitive” team will defend its championship in the national tournament in Germantown, Maryland.

The tournament will cap an accomplished five years together and serve as a farewell to six departing seniors: Angel Meriweather, Dominique DeCoy, Rachel Carroll, Jennifer Ballez, Mari Briggs and Hailey Harbison.

Del Mar youth wins Pitch, Hit & Run competition

Matty Allen won the Pitch, Hit & Run Team Championship Competition.

Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run is an exciting skills event for boys and girls where participants have the opportunity to compete in four levels of competition, including Team Championship events at all 30 Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the MLB All-Star Game.

Del Mar Nationals win Little League Championship

The Del Mar Nationals completed a great season as regular season champions and post-season champions of the Del Mar National Little League. The team started the season with eight straight wins, and seven of the team’s players connected for home runs during the season. The Nationals went undefeated through the League playoffs before playing the Del Mar American champion Angels in the Del Mar Cup, where the Angels came out on top. Congrats to all of the boys on a great season!

Surf Girls Academy champs in Pegasus Cup

Attack Muchnick BU15 wins Kickin’ it Challenge

The BU15 Attack team, managed by Coach Marc Muchnick, managed to go unbeaten on their way to winning the Championship at the recent Kickin it Challenge in Escondido. The Kickin’ it Challenge was established to raise much-needed funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. This is the Muchnick BU15 Attack team’s second year participating and second year in the finals. This was also the final prep tournament before the team heads to the Keele Cup Tournament outside of Manchester, England, where teams from 25 countries will compete at Keele University.

Three North Shore softball teams qualify for state championship

North Shore Softball All-Star teams achieved unprecedented success this past weekend at the ASA District Tournament. Players in three separate age categories finished among the top teams in the North San Diego County District, each earning a spot at the State Tournament in Lancaster on July 4-6.

This is the first time in the league’s 26-year history that all of North Shore’s All-Star teams have qualified for States in the same year.

Surf Academy (Madrigal) GU10 placed first in their flight at the June 21-22 Pegasus Cup.  The team, under the direction of Coach Danny Madrigal, won each of their pool play games, advancing to the final match, where they emerged as champions with a 6-1 victory. Sand Diego Rowing Club women take home bronze

Varsity women with the San Diego Rowing Club have brought home a bronze medal from the U.S. Rowing’s Youth National Championships in Sacramento. The event was held over three days earlier in June at Lake Natoma where top high-school-age rowers from across the nation raced on a 2,000-meter (1.25 mile) course to cap off the 2013-2014 season.

The club’s time of 7:26.852 made them the country’s third-fastest Women’s Youth boat in the “4x” (4 rowers, 8 oars) division. Junior rowers Marissa Gibson, Jillian Renly, Sarah Hoskin and Mariko Kelly earned their medals after competing against 19 teams in multiple heats. The club’s junior women advanced to U.S. Nationals after racing to a gold medal in the same event at the Southwest Junior District Championships in May, beating a field of 30 women’s teams in multiple heats.

The Del Mar Carmel Valley Sharks Boys U13 White team took the trophy at the this past weekend at the  Arsenal FC Summer Classic soccer tournament in the top bracket. The Sharks were directed by Coach Roy Ashcroft. The boys had an exciting tournament and were undefeated over the entire weekend. It was a challenging tournament with a final showdown between the top two teams that had met in the first round for a 0 - 0 draw. The Legends played a physical game and took the lead in the final 10 minutes of the game but the Sharks hung in and equalized in the final minute. The game went to golden goal, first goal wins in overtime, and the Sharks scored on a set piece to take the trophy. It was a group effort with six different boys scoring over the course of the weekend.
