Del Mar athlete among gold medalists at paralympic swim championships

Highlighted by gold medal performance from rookie Roderick Sewell, the 2014 U.S. Pan Pacific Para-Swimming Team continued to set the pace Friday, Aug. 8, in Pasadena. Two-time U.S. Paralympian Roy Perkins of Del Mar won a gold medal, then a silver during the competition.

Briguitte Linn Wiedemeyer and David Lane of the Del Mar BodySurfing Club won gold medals in their age/gender brackets International Bodysurfing Championship in Manhattan Beach. The annual event was held Saturday, Aug. 2, as part of the annual International Surf Festival (www.surffestival.org).

Carmel Valley resident wins javelin gold medal at AAU Track and Field Junior Olympics

Carmel Valley resident Charlotte Maher continues her reign as javelin champion taking the gold medal recently at the AAU Track and Field Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa. Charlotte won the 13-year-old girls division with a throw of 32.76 meters. Teammate Christopher White of Del Mar took the bronze medal in javelin for the 12-year-old boy division with a throw of 35.45 meters. Charlotte also took 11th in high jump and 21st in shot put for 13-year-old girls.

The San Diego Surf Academy Select GU8 team won the Albion Cup National Soccer Showcase in San Diego over July 18-21. The girls were undefeated in four games, racking up 18 goals and allowing only 2 against to bring home the trophy.

Del Mar Carmel Valley Sharks GU 17 Elite take 2nd national soccer title

The Del Mar Carmel Valley Girls U 17 Elite soccer team traveled to Germantown, Md., for a week of National Championship Series games among the top eight teams in their age group in the United States. History was made for the Sharks as they were National Champions for the second year in a row.
