Local kicker Ryan Sanborn selected to play at the 2014 Eastbay Youth All-American Bowl

All American Games (AAG), Football University (FBU), and Eastbay Sports, recently announced that kicker Ryan Sanborn, who plays for Torrey Pines Pop Warner in Carmel Valley and Francis Parker Middle School, has been selected to play at the 2014 Eastbay Youth All-American Bowl, taking place Sunday, Jan. 5, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Sanborn was presented with his official game jersey at Francis Parker Middle School on Dec. 20, 2013.

The Falcons opened the Kiwanis tournament with two decisive victories; 64-46 against Helix on Dec. 18 and 82-48 over Madison the next day.

Torrey Pines is off to a perfect start after winning its first three games to start the season at the Wolfpack-Horseman tournament at West Hills High in Santee.

Only a sophomore, Carmel Valley lacrosse star commits to Cornell

It’s safe to say that Torrey Pines High School’s Beau Botkiss will be playing lacrosse for many years to come. A downright guarantee can even be made about it, because even though Botkiss is only just now wrapping the fall of his sophomore year, he has already committed to play for Cornell University, one of the country’s top collegiate teams.

Cathedral Catholic won the San Diego Section Division I championship in dramatic fashion, as Jack Onstott returned an interception 98 yards to lead the Dons to a 37-37 triple overtime victory over San Pasqual in the Dec. 2 title game at Qualcomm Stadium.

Fresh off his Division 1 CIF cross country championship, Torrey Pines senior Tal Braude proved he is the fastest runner in the state, winning the State Cross Country 5K (3.1 miles) Championships in Fresno on Nov. 30. He won the championship with a time of 15:02.

Week in Sports: CCA, TPHS teams win Championships

Torrey Pines High golf standouts Sarah Cho and Jennifer Peng were freshman when they helped launch the Falcons dynasty.They finished their careers with the program still in pretty good shape. Cho and Peng led the Falcons to an unheard of fourth straight state championship on Nov. 20. They are believed to be the first two players in state history to win state championships all four years in which they were eligible.

Oceanside defeated Torrey Pines 35-0 in an Open Division playoff game on Nov. 15.

The Falcons lost for the third straight time as they fell to 6-5 overall for the season.

Canyon Crest Academy’s Girls’ tennis program is making a run in the CIF’s for their third year in a row. Having reached the CIF finals the prior two years, CCA is hoping that the third try will be a charm. Pictured at right is the number 1 doubles team at CCA directly after playing (and beating) their down-the-street rival, Cathedral Catholic High School, in the 2013 CIF Tennis Tournament. Amanda Presar (senior and team co-captain, pictured on the right) is partnered with freshman Amanda Schiffman (tennis uniforms by lululemon), hence “ASAP” as they are cleverly known.
