Jazz at the Carmel Valley Library
September's free family music program sponsored by The Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will be presented on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in the library's community room. It will feature flutist and saxophonist Adrienne Nims accompanied by keyboardist Jim Lair in a program of contemporary and Latin jazz, and global music. The program will last 45 minutes.

Nims was raised in New England where she studied with professors from the Universities of Massachusetts and Michigan, and the New England Conservatory of Music and played in ensembles at the conservatory as a teenager. She continued her studies at Ithaca College and performed as a guest artist in numerous Cornell University faculty concerts. She moved to California in 1995 where she has been performing, composing, recording, and teaching. Her band, Spirit Wind, has played at the San Diego Zoo and major jazz festivals.

Lair is also a vocalist and arranger, and has performed in various area musical ensembles.
The Library is at 3919 Townsgate Drive in Carmel Valley. For further information call (858) 552-1668.

Greek Festival this weekend

Admission is $3 for adults and children under 12 are free. The church is a 3459 Manchester Ave. just east of Mira Costa College.

Coastal cleanup day at local beaches, parks
Mark your calendars and register today for the 24th annual California Coastal Cleanup Day on Sept. 20. The event, put on by San Diego Coastkeeper and I Love A Clean San Diego, encourages people to lend a hand in protecting San Diego's valuable beaches and watersheds.

Clean-ups are held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. To register, go to cleanupday.org.
