March's free family music program sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will be held on Wednesday, March 14 at 7 p.m. in the library’s community room. It will feature 16-year-old bassoonist Zackery Edwards, a junior at San Dieguito Academy in Encinitas.
Zack is the 2018 Concerto Competition winner of the San Diego MTAC (Winds) and 2017 State VOCE Competition winner (Intermediate Winds). He made his solo debut in 2017 with the Coastal Communities Concert Band after winning the band’s 2016 Don Caneva Scholarship. He is principal bassoonist with the New Youth Orchestra (NYO) and the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra (MMYO), performing a concerto with MMYO in 2017 and winning the orchestra’s wind competition.
Zack was selected principal bassoon to the 2017 California All-State Wind Symphony and the 2017 All-Southern California Honor Orchestra. He has been studying with Danette White for the past four and a half years. Other teachers have included Carolyn Beck, Michiko Kobayashi of Japan, and school music teachers Mickey Janelli, Julie Yaeger, and Jeremy Wuertz. He will present works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Weber, Miroshnikov, and Dubois, accompanied on piano by Cho-Hyun Park.
