Del Mar-Solana Beach Rotary presents check for over $7,900 to Just in Time for Foster Youth

Del Mar-Solana Beach Rotary presented a check for over $7,900 to Just in Time for Foster Youth late last year. These funds will allow JIT to help more aged-out foster youth countywide to achieve self-sufficiency and well-being, and, ultimately, break the cycle of foster care. JIT does this by filling in the gaps for youth who don’t have family support after emancipation from San Diego County’s foster care program at age 18.

Just in Time for Foster Youth annually serves over 600 transitioning foster youth, ages 18-26 (roughly 65 percent female, 35 percent male). Its first step often starts with meeting an emergency need such as rent assistance, a bus pass, or setting up a first apartment. As it establishes trust, JIT addresses other needs such as money management, education support and college, job skills, meaningful employment, reliable transportation, and health. JIT also builds leadership from within — all of its Youth Services coordinators were once in foster care. (jitfosteryouth.org)

Del Mar-Solana Beach Rotary has donated over $48,000 to JIT, as well as providing first-time apartment furnishings and painting, since JIT first became a major beneficiary of DMSB Rotary’s annual turf bocce tournament in 2012.

DMSB Rotary is a leadership organization made up of local business, professional, and civic leaders, and others with an interest in community service. Members meet regularly and form friendships while doing many good things for the community and the world.
