Ocean Air school gives thanks for family, food

Ocean Air Elementary School first graders celebrated Thanksgiving with an assembly last Friday afternoon before a week off for the holiday. In pilgrim outfits made of paper, the five classes sang songs and each recited a poem in sweet, sing-song unison.

In one poem they talked about being thankful they had a nose to enjoy the scents of the day: a "cranberry, cinnamon, onion bouquet." Another poem had children saying, "When daddy carves the turkey, he carves his finger too."

A parent paparazzi snapped photos and took video of the event, where the students sang of being thankful for everything from yellow corn to hugging grandma.

"The teachers are really the ones off," teacher Jeri Sipe told the parents. "Now you guys are back on.
