Wisconsin school reunion held in San Diego

What do you do about that high school reunion when you now live 2,122 miles away?

A group of alumni of William Horlick High School in Racine, Wis., solved the problem. They hold a left-coast reunion each year in Southern California.

This year's gathering was on March 21 at the Alta La Jolla Club House. The 40 high school friends were graduates from the classes of 1937 to 1976. Each year, the Horlick High principal sends out a collection of T-shirts, coffee mugs and other school memorabilia for distribution to the attendees.

Previous reunions have been held in Palm Desert, Rancho Santa Fe, Indio, Menifee, Oceanside and Escondido. Last year, the group broke its land-locked tradition and took a Mexican cruise. While friends and family members "back home" were locked in a wicked Wisconsin winter, the Horlick-West Alumni Club was basking in the warm sunshine in Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.

"These West Coast gatherings have become so intriguing that we have lured attendance by a few alums from Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Illinois and Wisconsin," said Jim Bie, reunion coordinator. "This year, five friends came out from Racine for the event."
