4 will vie for board in May election
The Rancho Santa Fe Association Board of Directors met on April 16 with a short agenda. Here's a roundup of the discussions and decisions made:
Ballots were mailed on April 7 for the special election regarding the sale of the Dacus property on El Fuego to the Rancho Santa Fe School District.
Enough signatures were gathered by petition to force the vote. Mimosa neighbors' main concern was that the street access onto Mimosa be restricted in the terms of the sale.
The ballots are due back by May 11 at 5 p.m. and Smith said they have already been returned at a rapid rate. As of April 14, 456 ballots had been received.
At last Thursday's meeting, the board elected three election assistants to help the election inspectors. Donna Ferrier, Robin Moreau and Rob Schaefer will assist when the votes are tallied on May 12.
Elections for the board of directors are coming up in May. This year, four candidates are vying for two seats: Dick Doughty, Susan Marr, Steve Shillington and Jack Queen.
The community will have an opportunity to meet the candidates at the board's annual meeting on May 14 at 5 p.m. That day ballots will be mailed to association homes.
In more contentious election years, arguments were made about whose candidate statements came first in mailers, said Pete Smith, association manager.
For that reason, the board now draws candidates' names randomly to see whose flier will come first. The order will be: Doughty, Queen, Marr and Shillington.
Golf Club change
The Association voted to make a small change in the Golf Club membership rules for people who have move but still want to be members.
The old rules required that a person be a member for 20 years to receive the same membership if they move to a property normally not qualified for membership. The Golf Club wanted the time to be reduced from 20 to 10 years.
"We just want to be retaining good members that are still part of the community," said Steve Nordstrom, the Golf Club manager.
The category of members will be limited to 20.
