Thoughts of the hit TV show "Miami Vice" conjure up images from the 1980s of pastel suits, sunglasses, loafers without socks and flashy Ferraris in the hot locale of South Beach.
That's exactly the vision the Rancho Santa Fe Community Center has for its Miami Vice Gala on Saturday, May 2, at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe.
Along with Cuban cigar rollers and a mojito bar, the gala will feature a live auction and dancing to the band Atomic Groove. The party starts at 6 p.m. and attendees are encouraged to dress up in 80s nightclub attire.
Erin Leahy, director of development, is hoping for a crowd of about 300 people, to match how many showed up last year.
"This is our largest fundraiser of the year," Leahy said, noting that proceeds support the Community Center's programs - from Pilates to Jr. Dunkers basketball.
The auction will include some particularly exciting items, Leahy said, such as dinner at the Rancho Santa Fe firehouse, tickets to a Padres game in the Wells Fargo suite, a yellow Labrador puppy, a $20,000 Jet Source gift card, two tickets to Oprah in Chicago, a day with top NFL draft picks and six nights in Miami or Costa Rica courtesy of Capricorne Villas, a title sponsor of the event.
Tickets are $250 and are available at the community center. For more information, contact Erin Leahy at 756-2461.
