Solana Beach Little League's Buddy Day a day of learning

More than 80 young athletes participated in this year's Solana Beach Little League Buddy Day on April 18.

Buddy Day pairs majors division teams, comprised of 10- to 12-year-old players, with T-ball division teams, comprised of 5- to 7-year-old players.

The day started with an opening ceremony, followed by a lively T-ball game on the majors' field.

During the game the T-ball players' "buddies" joined them on the field the help them with position placement, to encourage teamwork and celebrate their accomplishments.

"Buddy Day is a great day for our league. Players in both divisions learn great lessons about baseball, and we all are reminded of the joy the sport brings to our kids," Kristy Myers, majors division representative and Buddy Day coordinator, said.

The buddy program was established to provide a leadership opportunity for the older players in the league and to reinforce the values of teamwork, fair play and sportsmanship, which are key tenets of SBLL.
