Students from Del Mar Heights Elementary School celebrated their participation in the Reflections Art Program on Oct. 29 with a special art gallery reception. The space was alive with creativity — all the work by elementary school students who displayed their paintings, drawings and photographs. Tables held stories, poems and musical compositions. Parents, students and friends admired the wide variety of talent and enjoyed food with live piano performed by music teacher Michelle Beeson and several students.
This year's Reflections Art Program theme was "Beauty is ..." The program was developed in 1969 to encourage students to pursue artistic expression. The winners in each category proceed to the next level, North Coastal Council. This year's winners have not yet been announced.
This year, there were 60 visual art entries, 44 photography entries, seven literature entries and two entries each in video production and musical composition. Volunteers, parents and community artists served as judges. This year's committee members were Rita Cecil, Linda Danninger and Nermin Nergis.
