An estimated 5,400 gallon sewage spill occurred Monday night from a manhole at 4275 Mission Bay Drive at the Pacific Beach area of San Diego, prompting warnings at De Anza Cove.
The cause of the spill is blockage from a temporary plug that was placed into the drain earlier to perform work in that area. The spill started 10:46 p.m. and ended at 11:30 p.m. when crews from the City of San Diego Wastewater contained the spill.
Approximately, 3,300 gallons of the sewage was recovered so an estimated 2,100 gallons of sewage flowed into a storm drain that leads to the De Anza Cove. Signs warning of sewage contamination are posted at De Anza Cove and will remain in place until samples confirm the water is safe for recreational use.
