Due to San Diego city budget reductions, there will be no lifeguard staffing at Torrey Pines City Beach (Black's Beach) as of Saturday.
From June through Labor Day, there will be two lifeguards assigned to patrol Torrey Pines City Beach daily, but none following Labor Day and continuing through May.
The change will be implemented by the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, Lifeguard Division. Fire-Rescue has worked closely with the State of California Lifeguards to develop a response plan for emergencies that may arise in this area, such as medical aids and water rescues, according to a city press release.
Emergencies should always be reported by dialing 9-1-1.
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, Lifeguard Division continues to encourage the public to always swim near a lifeguard. The closest City beach with year-round lifeguard protection is La Jolla Shores.
