Del Mar Union School District Superintendent Sharon McClain, Ed.D., was recently named Superintendent of the Year by the Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology, according to a news release.
"We are proud and honored to have a superintendent of this caliber leading the Del Mar Union School District. I know the whole community, especially our board, extends their congratulations to Dr. McClain," said Katherine White, president of the Board of Trustees of DMUSD.
McClain was presented with an award at the fifth annual Pepperdine Superintendent Advisory Council Dinner, at Tarpy's Roadhouse restaurant in Monterey on Jan. 28.
The event coincided with the Association of California School Administrators annual conference. The Pepperdine Superintendent Advisory Council is composed of California superintendents and school leaders, and utilizes Pepperdine University as a forum to discuss issues that concern superintendents and their schools.
"I'm very excited and honored to receive this award. I know so many wonderful superintendents and feel humbled to be recognized by the Pepperdine faculty. It has been a privilege to teach at Pepperdine, and I admire its fine work on behalf of educators and children," McClain said.
McClain became superintendent of DMUSD in September 2008. Before the role, she led the Hermosa Beach City School District, which received the California Distinguished Schools and National Blue Ribbon Schools titles under her tutelage.
