Margherita and Vittorio Missoni, family members of the Italian fashion house Missoni, were the guests of honor at a runway show and cocktail party held last month in La Jolla. More than 300 San Diego fashionistas and philanthropists attended the private event, which was held at the home of Joan Waitt. The event was underwritten by Nordstrom and benefitted the Center for Community Solutions, which assists more than 30,000 women, men and children affected by sexual assault and domestic violence each year.
The fashionable fete included a fashion show, featuring the summer collection straight off the runway in Milan. Guests listened to music provided by celebrity DJ Steve Aoki, while they shopped at the onsite boutique.
Rosita and Ottavio Missoni married in 1953 and started a knitwear company and premiered their collections in the mid-1960s in Milan. Their designs have become famous for their colorful palettes on luxurious fabrics, and their successful business has been passed down to Rosita and Ottavio's three children.
Vittorio Missoni, a second-generation family member, is now responsible for the company's institutional affairs and serves as an ambassador for the brand along with Margherita Maccapani Missoni, the eldest of the third generation. Margherita is also the face of the Missoni Acqua fragrance and the daughter of Angela Missoni, creative director of all the Missoni collections.
