At least three San Diego County congressmen don't want Guantanamo Bay prisoners relocated to Camp Pendleton.
U.S. Reps. Duncan D. Hunter, R-El Cajon, Brian Bilbray, R-Solana Beach, and Darrell Issa, R-Vista, sent a letter Tuesday to Defense Secretary Robert Gates, saying that Pendleton is too busy getting Marines ready to go to war to deal with housing prisoners held in Cuba since shortly after the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq, The North County Times reported.
"Camp Pendleton is a place where we train our Marines and sailors for combat,'' Hunter told the Times. "It is not a detention facility, nor should it be transformed into one.''
The president-elect's administration has promised to close the military prison in Cuba, and Camp Pendleton has been suggested as possible holding place for the detainees.
