The Del Mar Union School District announced its schedule for the summer meeting of its 7-11 committee to study the possible closure or reconfiguration of district schools.
These meetings will review declining enrollment at several district schools and is open to the public.
The seven-member committee will make nonbinding recommendations to the trustees regarding the potential fiscal benefit of closing one or more schools and reassigning students to sites with available classrooms.
The committee will evaluate alternatives to current enrollment and boundary policies, in addition to alternatives for the required move of district facilities to a new location. The city of Del Mar has bought the Ninth Street headquarters, facilities and land where the district was located. The district's administrative and maintenance offices must be relocated.
The first meeting took place on July 2 at the Del Mar Hills Academy.
Future meetings will take place at 3 p.m. at the Del Mar Hills Academy's Performing Arts Center: July 16, July 23, Aug. 6 and Aug. 20. The committee reports to the DMUSD Board of Trustees at its Aug. 26 regular meeting.
