I have enjoyed working with many of you this month on projects that have been longstanding for many years throughout the district.
Many community members have provided excellent suggestions for potential projects that could be funded with new federal stimulus Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funding. The city has formed an Energy Efficiency Ad Hoc Committee to evaluate all the proposals it receives and to help determine the best uses for the $12.5 million in federal funds that the city is scheduled to receive.
This has been a busy month for constituent services in Carmel Valley. In particular, many questions have been raised by constituents regarding the Level 2 mandatory water restrictions that went into effect citywide on June 1. For more information on the water restrictions, please visit
In addition to questions regarding Level 2 water restrictions, there have been several questions about the use of reclaimed water (purple pipe water) in the Carmel Valley area. For more information on purple pipes and reclaimed water use, please visit
Several constituents recently contacted my office about an ongoing problem with the depressed pavement at the intersection of El Camino Real and Half Mile Road. In November, the city dug up the street to install a new water valve. After several communications with the City Water Department and community members, the depression is now smoothed out.
It has been great working with the Pacific Highlands Ranch community on the proposed Gonzales Canyon Community Park. Working with the community to initiate the building of the park is a top priority.
Finally, as many of you know, the suspect involved in numerous home invasions throughout the city, including two in Carmel Valley, was apprehended on July 2, 2009. Although the suspect is no longer a risk to the community, it is important to continue Neighborhood Watches to assist the police with protecting our neighborhoods.
We look forward to hearing from you. Please contact our office at (619) 236-6611 or
