The 2009 North Shore 12 Gold All Stars made league history in Lancaster by becoming the first team in North Shore's 21-year history to qualify for the ASA Western Nationals by finishing third in the recent ASA State Tournament. North Shore 12 Gold has already had a magical season with a 39-11 record and reaching the championship game in seven of nine tournaments, including being crowned North San Diego District Champions.
The ASA State Tournament in scorching Lancaster brought 32 of the state's best 12 and under teams together in the double elimination tournament. North Shore first squared off against Placentia-Yorba Linda. It was a tense, seesaw battle that saw North Shore prevail 5-4.
The All Stars went on to beat Downey 4-2, followed by a 5-3 win over a gritty Santa Paula team. On Sunday, the North Shore girls battled the 98-degree heat and 25 mph winds to win back-to-back games against Western District Champ Hart 5-4 and an epic 7-6 comeback win, after being down 6-0, over Chino to win the loser's bracket.
One win separated North Shore 12 Gold from the state championship game.
Unfortunately, the heat took its toll on the girls and North Shore dropped its final game to 2008 National Champ Bonita Valley.
