Residential burglaries dropped significantly in Carmel Valley in the last three months, according to Gaylon Sells, San Diego Police Departments Northwestern Division community relations officer.
"They've really dropped off and we're working to keep it as low this summer," Sells said.
Residents can play a big part in keeping home burglaries down by remembering to lock doors and close windows, Sells said. He added the majority of area burglaries are due to unlocked doors and open windows.
Sells said since the home invasion robberies earlier in the year, they've had a lot of success with residents starting Neighborhood Watch programs. In the last few months, Sells has assisted at least 15 new groups in starting up.
