CV home invasion 'person of interest' in custody

A man named as a 'person of interest' in connection with a series of home invasions in Carmel Valley was reportedly in custody Friday on an unrelated drug charge.

Todd Martin was arrested around 5 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego police. Martin was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. He is not a suspect in the Carmel Valley assault case and was not booked for it.

San Diego police told KGTV Channel 10 that the man fits the description of one who accosted a Carmel Valley woman in her garage with a knife on Wednesday.

The assailant forced the 33-year-old woman into her home, where he bound and sexually assaulted her and slashed her arm before fleeing with her purse, authorities said.

The robbery and assault in the 3700 block of Carmel View Road was reported about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to San Diego police.

The victim described the assailant as a roughly 5-foot-7-inch Latino man who appeared to be in his 30s and wore dark-colored clothing, gloves, a baseball cap and sunglasses.

A similar crime occurred in the same general area last month.
