Huntington's Disease Society of America, San Diego chapter, is one of 31 chapters of the Huntington's Disease Society of America dedicated to helping families distressed by the disease.
It provides support for at-risk people and caregivers. Also, the organization aids in the search for a cure of HD, which causes suffering and loss of productivity.
In San Diego, as many as six families per month find out that they have been affected by the disease. Because so many caregivers across America must help the ailing do the simple, everyday things, the foundation attempts to alleviate this pressure. It services San Diego and Imperial counties.
HDSA-San Diego sponsors a monthly support group for affected families, raises money for the care and cure of HD, helps support a Center of Excellence for Family Services, publishes a triannual newsletter and provides a range of other services to the HD community.
