Group raising funds for Rowe performing arts center

Community leaders are stepping up to establish a $1 million matching fund for the Rancho Santa Fe Education Foundation's efforts to fundraise for a performing arts center at the new and improved R. Roger Rowe School.

At a community concert last month, Bibbi Herrmann Conner, co-chair for the Performing Arts Center at RSF Underwriting Campaign, provided an overview of the immediate need for funding.

"The funding is halfway there," Conner said. "But construction is well under way, so we need your support today."

Conner described how with the Rowe renovation, the community has a unique opportunity.

The campaign's aim is to invest $2 million to upgrade a planned multipurpose room to an 8,600-square-foot, 400-seat, state-of-the-art performance facility for shared use between students and the community. The performing arts center would then become a venue for community concerts, theater shows, performances and private functions.

"This addition to our community will allow us to gather close to home and enjoy music, the universal language of mankind, in a place it so deserves," said Marie Addario, past school board member and the lead singer in the Rancho Santa Fe Big Band. "It has been on our wish list for years, and I am already excited over the wonderful performances this space will provide us and our children."
