The Village Church Community Theater hopes to get Rancho Santa Fe in the holiday spirit with its production of "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever."
Performances will be given at 7 p.m. Dec. 4 and 5, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 6. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
The cast of 34 will re-create the story of the Herdmans, a group of terrible children who lie and steal, then invade the church one Sunday and decide to take over the annual Christmas pageant.
None of the children portrayed in the play know the true biblical Christmas story. Their interpretation of the story paints the Wise Men as a bunch of dirty spies and has a lot of people up in arms. But the twist makes for an unusual production and possibly the best one ever.
Margie Wood directs the play and the stage combat scenes are choreographed by Chris Williams. Barbara Adams is featured in the role of Mrs. Bradley, the pageant director. Avelino Cortina, Alexa Sorensen and David Worsey play the rest of the Bradley family. Children Parker and Kate Mitchell, Albert Shepherd, Rachel Waite, Kylie Duncan and Clark Brown play the mischievous Herdmans.
