The Angels Foster Family Network celebrated 10 years of saving babies, while honoring founder Cathy Richman, at a fundraising luncheon on Oct. 15 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla.
The event was emceed by Jeff Detrow of "Jeff and Jer" fame. Guests enjoyed a fashion show with Angels kids from each of the nonprofit's 10 years, including the very first child placed in a safe home and later adopted.
Despite the downturn in the economy, the turnout for the annual luncheon was the largest to date. The record monies raised will be used to recruit and train more foster families, which are in high demand.
Chief Executive Officer Richman founded Angels in 1998 in response to the foster-care crisis she witnessed during five years as a volunteer in the San Diego County Juvenile Court. Drawing on her experiences as a child advocate and her research in child development, Richman developed her own vision of a foster care agency staffed by professionals, affiliated with MSW-degreed social workers, and dedicated to placing needy babies with only the most carefully screened, loving parents.
