Thanksgiving came early at Ocean Air School last week, when first-graders presented their annual Turkey Day performance. Dressed as pilgrims, the children sang songs and recited poems to a standing-room only crowd.
The children and their parents then went back to their classrooms for a small Thanksgiving feast.
In Susan Brubaker's classroom, the first-graders had made their own placemats and sock turkeys as well as an iMovie about what they were thankful for — everything from beaches to brothers.
"I am thankful for my sister because she is very endearing," read Keren McRea in the movie.
At the end of the performance, an emotional first-grade staff and members of the parent-teacher association said they were thankful for Principal Gary Wilson, whose last day at the school is Nov. 30. Parents expressed their thanks too, with a standing ovation.
