Southern California German Shepherd Rescue will host its first Barktoberfest from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 18 at Markim Pet Resort at 4393 Carmel Valley Road.
Families, including all breeds of well-
behaved, leashed dogs, are invited to enjoy an afternoon of live music, an authentic German lunch and locally brewed beers from Stone Brewery, La Jolla Brewhouse and Millers Field. There will also be free swimming for pups and a San Diego Police Department K9 working dog demonstration and booths featuring pet-loving vendors, sponsors and other rescue organizations.
The star of Barktoberfest will be Juno, a German shepherd that was recently found abandoned, emaciated and tick-ridden in a Perris backyard and rescued by the local organization. Juno had given birth to 11 puppies a day before animal control authorities broke into the backyard and saved them.
All 11 puppies will be up for adoption to qualified families at Barktoberfest.
The puppies will also take part in a puppy-kissing booth.
Tickets are $35 for adults and $15 for children and can be bought online at www.socal
