Aquatics tops in Jr. Olympics

Sixty-seven North Coast Aquatics swimmers helped their team bring home a first place trophy from the 2010 Short Course Junior Olympics held at the Coronado pool.

Ariel Jordan from Carmel Valley won the High Point award for the 13-14 girls. Jason O'Brien of Rancho Santa Fe tied for High Point for the 13-14 boys.

NCA broke several Junior Olympic and San Diego Imperial records: Kelsey Kafka of Carmel Valley broke the JO 100 breaststroke record previously set in 2000. She was also part of the JO and SDI record-breaking relay team for the 400-medley relay. Her teammates were Ariel Jordan, Margaret Guo of Carmel Valley and Gretchen Horbol of Carlsbad.

The relay team of Margaret Guo, Annabel Tomes (of Carmel Valley), Gretchen Horbol and Ariel Jordan also set a JO record in the 400-freestyle relay. Not to be outdone, the 13-14 boys broke 2 JO relay records. Jason O'Brien, Sean Gartland of Carlsbad, Thomas Machado of Carmel Valley and Scott Clausen of Oceanside set a JO record in the 800-free relay and the team of Jason O'Brien, Scott Clausen, Sean Gartland and Austin Aleman of Clairmont set a new JO record in the 400-freestyle relay.
