5.3 quake rattles region, no damage reported in San Diego

A magnitude-5.3 earthquake centered just south of the U.S.-Mexico border near Calexico rattled parts of San Diego County on Thursday but caused no injuries or structural damage.

The temblor, which struck at 9:44 a.m. with an epicenter about 32 miles south-southeast of Mexicali, was the latest in a series of hundreds of aftershocks from a 7.2-magnitude quake that rocked northern Baja California on Easter Sunday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Though people in various San Diego-area communities felt this morning's temblor, local public safety agencies had reported no quake-related problems by midday.
