The Green Chamber of San Diego County celebrated its official kickoff last week, drawing more than 400 business-minded locals to the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach. Guests to the event, themed "Green is Everyone's Business," enjoyed networking, musical entertainment, and a sampling of foods from local restaurants.
The Green Chamber's mission to encourage green business practices was highlighted by a presentation given by Greg Koch, chief executive officer of Stone Brewing Co., on his company's sustainability efforts. Koch's presentation, and the event as a whole, strived to emphasize the benefits that sustainable operations can have on a business's bottom line. Guests learned about environmentally friendly practices that can help streamline operating costs while reducing a company's environmental footprint.
"This event celebrates more than the kickoff of the Green Chamber, it celebrates the beginning of a new movement towards environmentally friendly commerce on a widespread basis throughout San Diego County," said Peter Zahn, chief executive officer of Green Chamber. "Our goal is to enable even the most common businesses to take part in the green economy."
Since the organization's soft launch in November, the Green Chamber has expanded to 75 members.
