Three girls from the North Shore Girls Softball League (NSGSL) earned wins at the local level of the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Competition held in Cardiff. The event is the official Youth Skills Competition of Major League Baseball and includes four levels of competition: local, sectional, team championship and national finals.
In her third year of competition, Tracy Chin won the pitch contest with six out of six balls on target in the 13- to-14-year-old division. Chin also was the overall winner in her age group.
"The competition was a lot of fun," Chin said. "Going six for six was the highlight. I'm looking forward to the next round of competition."
Last year, Chin won the Regional hit competition in the 11- to-12-year-old division to qualify for the Super Regional competition. She was the overall winner of the Super Regionals and finished fourth in the nation, one spot away from winning a trip to the MLB All-Star Game.
Also beating out the competition were Katie Sheng and Allison Harvey. Sheng won the top spot in the pitch contest, and she was the overall winner in the 9- to-10-year-old division. Harvey took first in the pitch competition in the 11- to-12-year-old division. All three girls are eligible to compete in the Sectional competition in May.
