Northeastern volleyball head coach Ken Nichols has announced the signing of Torrey Pines High School student-athlete Alexa Armstrong for the class of 2016 during the fall signing period. She will join the Huskies for the 2011 season.

Armstrong will come to Boston after serving as a three-year starter for Torrey Pines High School, where she was named the 2008 Most Improved Player. The 6’0 middle blocker played her club volleyball with Encinitas Wave, and was the lone starting junior for the squad that was ranked in the national top ten throughout the season by

Armstrong helped lead her high school team to the 2009 San Diego CIF Sectional Division Championship and a third place finish in the Southern Sectional CIF tournament.

“Alexa could develop at any front row position, but it’s nice to know that she has played middle blocker at the highest club level, considering we are losing three players at the middle position,” said Nichols. “Alexa came to us early in the recruiting process and after she visited nearly a dozen other schools, we were elated that she chose Northeastern. Her positive attitude, work ethic and court presence will make her an invaluable asset to our program.”
