Trevor Hoffman, who pitched for the San Diego Padres from 1993 until he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in January 2009, lives in Del Mar.
He is not the only former Padres player to call the city home at one time or another; others include Steve Finley, Brad Ausmus and Graig Nettles.
Outfielder Finley was acquired by the Padres in a December 1994 trade and spent four seasons with the club, including the 1998 season in which the Padres reached the World Series. Although they didn't win the World Series, Finely was on the Arizona Diamondbacks team that won the 2001 world championship.
Ausmus was traded to the Padres in July 1993 and was the team's first-string catcher until being traded to Detroit in June 1996.
Nettles was both a player and a coach for the Padres. His 22-season run in the major leagues included three with the Padres — starting with the 1984 season that saw San Diego reach the World Series. Nettles appeared in a World Series five times and was on a winning Yankees team twice. His period of Del Mar residence included the 1995 season in which he was a coach for the Padres.
